What is Lootsy?

Lootsy is a chore and reward app for families. Kids complete chores and habits ("quests"), parents approve them, and approved quests turn into loot chests full of diamonds that kids save up and trade for rewards the parent chooses. It borrows the reward loop kids love from games — loot, streaks, levels — and attaches it to real-world responsibility.

How much does Lootsy cost?

Free plan: up to 2 kids and 6 quests per kid, with the whole kid experience (loot chests, levels, titles, the full dragon wardrobe) free. Lootsy Plus: $4.99/month or $39.99/year (save 33%): unlimited kids and quests for one household, AI quest and reward ideas, and family insights. Families can try Plus free for 14 days, once, with no card required; afterwards they're back on the free plan unless they subscribe, and nothing is deleted.

What ages is Lootsy for?

Kid profiles support ages 4 to 17; quest suggestions adapt to each kid's age and interests, drawing on a library of 133 chores and habits and 73 reward ideas. Younger kids get simple quests like "put toys away"; teens get bigger ones like "cook a meal" worth more diamonds.

Does Lootsy use real money or a debit card?

No real money moves inside Lootsy. Diamonds are points (a guideline of 1 diamond ≈ 5¢ helps parents price rewards), there is no bank account or debit card, and parents fulfil every reward themselves. If you want a real debit card for your kid, an allowance-banking app is a better fit; Lootsy is for motivating habits without handing kids a card.

Is Lootsy safe for kids?

Kid profiles are a first name and an age — no kid email, photos, location or contact details. No ads, no chat, no social features. The parent area is protected by a PIN (or Face ID on the parent's own phone). A family account needs only a parent email; kids' devices join with a family code. Lootsy uses anonymous product analytics (PostHog) to improve the app — no ads, no cross-app tracking, no kid names — and parents can turn it off in Settings. Data is never sold.

Do kids need their own device?

No. One shared iPad or phone works: kids pick their profile, and parents unlock the parent area with a PIN. Want more devices? Send an invite link or enter your family code on each one, and quests, approvals and loot sync live between them.

Can Lootsy track habits, not just chores?

Yes. A quest can be a one-off chore ("clean your room") or a daily habit ("read 20 minutes", "brush teeth"). Daily streaks pay bonus loot, and a Streak Shield forgives a missed day so habits build on encouragement, not guilt.

How do parents approve chores?

When a kid taps "I'm all done", the quest lands in the parent's approval queue. Parents approve with one tap — optionally adding a note like "So proud of you!" that the kid sees when they open the loot chest — or send it back with a friendly hint.

Can kids buy things in the app?

No. Kids ask for a reward and a parent approves it; diamonds are only deducted on approval. The Lootsy Plus subscription is purchased by a parent, behind the parent PIN.

What happens when the free trial ends?

The family moves to the free plan automatically. Nothing is charged and nothing is deleted — kids beyond 2 and extra quests stay, you just can't add more until you upgrade.

How many kids can use Lootsy?

The free plan covers 2 kids. Lootsy Plus covers unlimited kids in one household under a fair-use policy.

How is Lootsy different from a chore chart?

A chore chart records work; Lootsy makes finishing it feel like winning. Every approved quest becomes a loot chest to open, streaks and levels build over weeks, and kids pick a goal in the reward shop and watch their savings bar fill — a first lesson in saving, disguised as a game.
